On 7 September 2026, the GALILEO project was represented at the IAEE European Conference Munich 2026, held from 6 to 10 September in Munich.
The presentation, “A Practical Decision-Support Framework for Screening Industrial Flexibility Across Electricity Market Mechanisms” by Brecht Ruttens, introduced a practical framework for assessing whether industrial installations are technically suited to participate in different electricity market mechanisms.
The framework uses a limited set of industrial process characteristics, including power range, activation time, ramping capability, duration, recovery constraints, and availability, to screen compatibility with balancing services, day-ahead and intraday markets, imbalance settlement, congestion management, and capacity remuneration mechanisms.
Using representative cases from the steel, metallurgy, chemicals, and food sectors, the work demonstrates how a relatively small set of technical parameters can support rapid pre-feasibility screening of industrial flexibility and help identify relevant opportunities for electricity market participation.
