The GALILEO project partners came together in Genk for a consortium meeting on 28 May 2026, hosted by Aperam, bringing together expertise from industry, research, energy markets, and the electricity system to advance industrial flexibility in Belgium.
Together with Elia Group, ENTRAS, VITO, EnergyVille, KU Leuven, Nyrstar, LCL Data Centers, Tiense Suiker, Tessenderlo Group, and Aperam, the consortium discussed progress across the project and some of its central questions: How much flexibility is available in industry? How can its market value be maximized? What are the benefits for industry and the wider energy system? And does the current market design sufficiently reward industrial flexibility?
A key focus of GALILEO is connecting industrial process modelling with electricity market participation. By working closely with industrial partners, the project investigates how real process constraints determine available flexibility and how optimal bidding strategies across different electricity markets can unlock its economic value.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to connect these discussions with industrial reality at Aperam and gain further insight into the processes behind one of the GALILEO use cases.
Thanks to Aperam for hosting the meeting and to all GALILEO partners for another productive day of discussion and collaboration.
